The Society is deeply saddened to announce the passing of former Deputy President and Treasurer Mr Peter Roberts. Mr Roberts and his connection to the Shire Horse Society brought him great pleasure and his contribution to the Society and support of the breed were an important part of his life.
Whilst the Roberts family were historically deeply involved in the showing and breeding of Shires during Mr Roberts childhood, it was his enthusiasm and that of his brother Geoffrey that reconnected his children to the Society. This enthusiasm continues in Mr Roberts son’s families.
Mr Roberts involvement with the Society grew over his many years of support and participation; serving on Council as a member and as Treasurer of the Society, hosting overseas guests at the Spring Show, actively attending many ‘open day’ events and through his time as Deputy President with HRH Princess Anne.
The introduction of the George Roberts Perpetual Trophy with donation of the beautiful cup by Mr Roberts and his brother over four decades ago has brought a permanent bond between the family and Society.
We send our most sincere condolences to the Roberts Family.
