The Society is pleased to share a great story with you all.
Shire mare, Dyfed St Helena owned by Dyfed Shire Horse Farm gave birth to her first foal on 21st April. This filly is a niece to Her Majesty The Queen’s Drum horse, known as Drum Horse Major Mercury of the Household Cavalry and was previously owned by them.
The foal is the 25th foal born on their farm and is the fourth generation of the Dyfed Shire bloodline begun by their late Grandfather, Mr J R Lewis.
In his memory, they approached Buckingham Palace to offer Her Majesty The Queen the opportunity to name their filly foal, who was born on her 94th birthday.
As you can imagine their delight when Her Majesty accepted their offer and out of a short-list of names offered, The Queen chose Dyfed Guinevere.
