Frequently Asked Questions

We look forward to welcoming our visitors to the 2021 National Shire Horse Show.  The Show dates are 13th & 14th March 2021 and will be held outdoors at Newark Showground, Newark, Nottinghamshire, NG24 2NY.

Some of the questions we are asked are listed below.  Please note the office and telephone will be unmanned from the Friday prior to the Show owing to staff being on site.  The office will re-open the following Tuesday.

Q.  Is the Show held outdoors?

A.  Yes the Show is held outdoors with the stables located indoors.

Q.  Can I bring my trade stand to your Show?

A.  Yes please do visit our trade stand section and download the application form or contact the office on 01536 771611 or email for further information

Q.  Can I purchase tickets at a discounted price in advance?

Q.  I’ve purchased my tickets online but now I cannot find my e-ticket email.

A.  No problem please click here to obtain this information.

Q.  Can I purchase tickets on the gate?

A.  Yes tickets can be purchased on the gate by cash only.

Q.  Can I pay on the gate by a card payment?

A.  Only cash sales can be taken on the gate.

Q.  Do you offer carer’s tickets?

A.  If a visitor has a full-time carer or attendant, that carer can have access to the event free of charge by applying before Friday 5th March 2021 with supporting documentation to:  The Shire Horse Society, The Old Dairy, Rockingham Castle, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, LE16 8TH.

Please note that advance tickets will only be provided upon satisfactory proof that the attendant is a carer.

Q.  What are the prices for children?

A.  Children under 5 years of age are admitted free of charge.  Ticket price for children aged 5 – 13 is £8.00 in advance and £10.00 on the gate.  A family ticket is available too.  Please note children under 13 yrs gain complimentary admission on Sunday but not on Friday or Saturday.

Q.  Can I sponsor part of the Show?

A.  Sponsorship starts from just £100.00 and comes with many benefits.  The Society is grateful to those that help with this.  Please call the office on 01536 771611.

Q. Where can I find local accommodation.

A.  We cannot recommend anywhere in particular but suggest you click here to find accommodation to suit your requirements.  Alternatively please click here  for further ideas.

Q.  Is there car parking?

A.  Yes the Showground has plenty of parking spaces and the parking charge in 2021 is £2.00 for all cars entering the Showground.

Q.  Can I bring my dog to the National Show?

A.  We welcome all well behaved dogs on short leads and ask their owners to clear up after them.

Q.  Can I book in advance a place on the popular stable tours (Saturday/Sunday)?

A.  The Society will decide nearer the time if the popular stable tours will be available.  However, please note if they do go ahead then bookings can only be made on the day via the Shire Horse Society’s Show Office.

Q.  Is there a cash machine at the National Show?

A.  No sorry we don’t have one on site but the closest off-site cash machines are located at the two petrol stations on the A46/ A1 roundabout, just a two-minute drive away.

Q.  Can I bring my caravan/camper van and stay for the period of the Show?

A.  We do offer a number of spaces with or without electricity on the Showground and full details are available in our Caravan Section or simply call the office on 01536 771611 to reserve and pay for your space.

Q.  I am staying on the caravan field are there showers and toilets?

A.  Yes there are clean and well equipped facilities located next to the caravan site.

Q.  I am not a member of the Society, but would like to attend the Annual Dinner on the Friday evening and the Party Night (ticketed event with entertainment)  on the Saturday is this possible?

A.  Yes we welcome both members and non-members to the Annual Dinner and Party Night.  Please email the office for an application form. Alternatively please download the form from our Forms and Downloads page.  

Q.  I am staying on site, where can I eat in the evening?

A.  The Stockman’s will be open on Friday, 12th March and Saturday 13th March and will offer hot food and a bar.

Q.  What is the postcode of the event?

A.  The postcode is NG24 2NY

Q.  Is there WiFi at the Show?

A.  Yes.
